Fans are lining the Canyon of Heroes in Lower Manhattan to celebrate the first WNBA championship by the New York Liberty.
They won a decisive Game 5 over Minnesota on Sunday to clinch the title, more than 20 years after the Liberty became one of the league's original franchises. The parade up Broadway will lead the team to City Hall where Mayor Eric Adams will host a ceremony honoring the team.
"I've been going to all the games, win or lose. I've been celebrating them and cheering for them and look what they did for us," a season ticket holder told WOR's Natalie Migliore.
That will be followed on Thursday night with a rally at the Barclay's Center in Brooklyn.
"This is really exciting and now the spotlight is on women's basketball. So we're winning at the right time," one New Yorker said.
