With flu season beginning its important to highlight the importance of staying up to date on all vaccines, not just the seasonal ones that are in the headlines. Dr. Gregory Poland joined 710 WOR’s Len Berman and Michael Riedel in the Morning to talk about what he’s noticed and why it seems many are not getting their shots.
“There’s very widespread, what we call vaccine apathy,” Dr. Poland told Berman and Riedel. “That’s a short-term decision that has long term consequences.”
The numbers show that those consequences might already be showing up. “Normally we have about 10,000 cases of whooping cough reported each year, we’re already at 15,000,” Poland reported. “This is predominantly because children and adults are not getting their tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis booster.”
