A new report by Wallethub ranked 182 cities of varying size on the health and safety of women, as well as how they fare socially and economically. New York City overall ranked 89th, which was just barely above the bottom half threshold, and in terms of social and economic well-being the Big Apple ranks 165th.
WOR Street Reporter Natalie Migliore hit the streets of New York City to find out what the women she spoke with had to say about the study. She joined 710 WOR’s Len Berman and Michael Riedel in the Morning to share what she found with Berman and morning news anchor Larry Mendte, who was filling in for Riedel.
“The cost of living has gone up so much but wages have not, so I can understand why it’s like that,” said one woman she spoke with.
On a positive note for New York City, it did rank 13th in the healthcare and safety portion of the study but the healthcare may be inflating that ranking since women don’t feel extremely safe. As Migliore heard from one of the people she spoke with, “As a woman you expose yourself coming to work early, you don’t know when a crazy is going to jump on the subway.”
