New York City Comptroller Brad Lander announced he will throw his hat in the ring and challenge Mayor Eric Adams in the 2025 mayoral election.
Lander, who is further left than Mayor Adams has received endorsements from prominent progressives, including Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
Joe Borelli, Minority leader of the New York City Council and Representative for NYC's 51st District, said of Lander's announcement, "If someone wants Mayor DeBlasio part two, then Lander is your guy. If you want the city to go back to the wacky, lefty policies day in and day out, Brad is your guy. I venture to say if Mayor Adams loses to Lander, the city will be in worse shape."
