How Realistic Are Democrat Odds To Win With Kamala Harris Topping The Bill?

At this time last week, many Democrats thought their best chance to win the White House in 2024 would only happen if they replaced Joe Biden. Now Biden is out, but in Kamala Harris, some Democrats fear he may have been replaced by the one candidate with even worse odds of winning the White House. But is Harris really such a long shot? According to ABC News contributor Sarah Isgur, Harris may have a realistic chance to beat out Donald Trump and win the race. Speaking on 710 WOR’s Len Berman and Michael Riedel in the Morning program, Isgur laid out what Harris has to do now to win in November.

Isgur summarized the past three days in the Harris campaign for Berman and Riedel like this: “Her approval ratings were below Joe Biden’s during the administration and her net favorable/unfavorables are, in some polls at least, worse than Trump’s. More people dislike her than Donald Trump. That’s the bad news for the Harris team and the Democrats. The good news is that… she’s consolidated the Democrats. There’s a lot of enthusiasm from Democrats, who are just so freaking relieved that Joe Biden is not going to be their nominee, the money is pouring in, and [now] the question is… when [her bump] comes back down, which may be after the convention, when we head into Labor Day, what does it look like then.”

Isgur says there might be some good news for Republicans with regards to the campaign money raised by the Biden-Harris ticket. “When someone drops out of the primary before becoming the nominee, their vice-presidential pick, if they have one, is not legally anything. So, under the FEC rules, I actually don’t think it’s a particularly close call that it wasn’t her money and that she can’t touch it. But it’s also- and I’m going to use this loosely- it’s also only $90 million, and in the grand scheme of how much money their campaign is going to have, it’s not a huge amount and we do know for sure that the DNC can take that money and spend it on her behalf. So, this isn’t going to be life changing, whether the Harris campaign itself gets the money or the DNC can just take the money and spend it on Harris, you know, we’re sort of just quibbling over details at some point.”
