Joe Borelli Backs Kamala Harris... But Not For The Reason You Might Expect

Now that Joe Biden’s candidacy is in the rear-view mirror, Americans can focus on the apparent front-runner to be the 2024 Democrat Presidential nominee, Vice President Kamala Harris. Yet many the negatives seem to stand front and center ahead of any of the redeeming qualities that make her a likely candidate to pick off GOP nominee Donald Trump. New York City Councilman Joe Borelli (R-51ST) is squarely in the camp of Harris detractors. Speaking on 710 WOR’s Len Berman and Michael Riedel in the Morning program, Borelli says the single biggest reason why he hopes Harris is the Democrat’s choice to oppose Trump on November 5th is, well, Harris herself.

“This is someone who was so fundamentally unpopular even with her own staff, that the majority of them quit or couldn’t even work with her or deal with her,” Borelli told Berman and Riedel. “You never want to say this is the best person to run against, but this is probably the best person to run against, because she is going to be saddled with the legacy of Joe Biden without sort of the ‘every man’ charm that the old Joe Biden had in the 90’s and 2000’s. He was kind of a likeable guy. I’m not going to count my chickens before the eggs hatch, but this is who I think the Trump campaign would prefer to run against.”

Borelli says he can only think of 200 million reasons why Harris has quelled Democrat fears about her unpopularity and persuaded them to back her candidacy. “There are plenty of politicians with policies I don’t like, but at least I can understand why people might find them charming or persuasive, et cetera. She isn’t one of them. The only reason she is the nominee right now is because, more than anything else, she has access to the money that Joe Biden and her have raised. But not for that $200 million kitty in the bank, I think the Democrats would be having a very different conversation, because there are some talented Democrat leaders out there. Again, I may disagree with them, but there are more talented politicians and political snake oil salesmen who could run a better campaign."
