Gov. Hochul Is Clueless On How To Fix The MTA

Len Berman and Michael Riedel talked with Joe Borelli, minority leader of the NY City Council and Rep. of Staten Island, about NY Gov. Kathy Hochul suspending congestion pricing without an alternative plan for the MTA's financial woes.

Borelli said, "One thing we know for sure, NY Gov. Kathy Hochul has no control over government entities, her administration, or people she put in place. First, she spends half a billion dollars on plate readers before the plan is implemented, then she tells New Yorkers she will make up the lost funds expected from congestion pricing by raising taxes. In the meantime, the MTA loses $700 million a year to fare beaters and is operating at a billion-dollar deficit." Borelli believes the congestion pricing suspension will end right after the 2024 elections.
