How Does MTA Pay For Improvements Now?

After Governor Kathy Hochul slammed the brakes on congestion pricing, there's now a debate in New York over how to pay for needed MTA upgrades and improvements.

Projects are on hold after Hochul indefinitely postponed the $15 toll to travel south of 60th Street, which was expected to bring in about $1 billion in revenue annually. The governor is reportedly pushing a new tax on businesses, but it's unclear if there's the appetite for that among state lawmakers.

Congestion pricing was scheduled to begin on June 30th. However, Hochul said this week that she wouldn't move forward with the plan because of the economic impact it would have on the city's recovery.
