Columbia University Begins Smaller College Graduation Ceremonies

College graduation ceremonies begin at Columbia University on Friday, following the school's decision to cancel a university-wide commencement.

That decision followed a two-week encampment that sparked safety concerns on campus. After negotiations with the protesters failed, the pro-Palestinian demonstrators barricaded themselves inside an academic building leading to a police response.

Hundreds of protesters have been arrested in recent weeks for college protests calling on schools to divest from businesses related to Israel.
