New NYPD statistics show that crime in the subway system fell by 6.4 percent during the first four months of the year.

Arrests have also spiked by 57 percent compared to a year ago. That includes a 12 percent increase in felony arrests. The number of citations written by officers have doubled in 2024, with more than 40,000 summonses written for fare evasion. The MTA and NYPD have cracked down on fare beaters as a strategy to prevent more serious crimes in the subway system.

The reduction comes after a series of high profile crimes in recent months.
