A brand new study by the Citizens Budget Commission finds that only 30 percent of New Yorkers are happy with the quality of life in the city.
That's down from 50 percent just five years ago. The survey found that people feel less safe, they say the streets aren't clean and the services provided by the city are getting worse. Only 37 percent rate the safety of their neighborhood as excellent or good and only 24 percent would give the same rating to government services.
“Of course, it’s important to consider context—coming out of the pandemic, employment just recently returning to pre-COVID levels, and increasing affordability challenges—but what New Yorkers' responses crystalize the stark reality that they clearly rate the quality of life and quality of City services as not good," CBC President Andrew Rein said.
