The estranged wife of the suspect in the Gilgo Beach killings is coming to his defense.
In a statement released through her attorney, Asa Ellerup said that Rex Heuermann is "not capable of the crimes he is accused of."
Heuermann is charged with the murder of four women, more than a decade after the remains of 10 female victims were found in the area near Gilgo Beach. Prosecutors said they have evidence connecting him to the four victims he's accused of killing.
"I will listen to all of the evidence and withhold judgment until the end of trial," Ellerup said. "I have given him the benefit of the doubt, as we all deserve."
