The race for the New York 3rd Congressional District is entering the home stretch. Early voting for the February 13th election starts tomorrow, as Democrat Tom Suozzi tries to reclaim the seat he once held, while Republican newcomer Mazi Pilip tries to hold onto the seat for the GOP, after it was vacated by the departure of George Santos.

Yet, even though the winner will represent Nassau County, events in Manhattan have pushed their way front and center into the race, as video of the recent beat-down of two NYPD officers by several migrants has made illegal immigration the hot-button topic in the race. Pilip appeared on 710 WOR’s Len Berman and Michael Riedel in the Morning program to discuss that and other issues Nassau’s voters will have to address.

“This is absolutely ridiculous; it’s just unbelievable,” Pilip told Berman and Riedel. “Where is Governor Hochul? Where is the law, the laws to protect our American citizens, and we are seeing this horrible situation… illegal migrants who are attacking our police. What we are seeing with district attorneys like Alvin Bragg, they are refusing to send those people, put them in jail… it is so wrong on every level, and we have to stop it.”

Pilip also defended herself against Democrat ads attacking her public service record. “Blaming me, that I cut Social Security as a county legislator? I had nothing to do with Social Security. I’m not going to cut Social Security when I go to Congress. And defunding the police? I am the only candidate in this race that got endorsed by seven police unions. There is a reason for that.”

But Pilip swung hardest at Suozzi and Democrats on the issue of abortion. “He thinks he knows better than me what abortion is about, or the risks by being pregnant. He knows better than me? I carried seven children! I know what the risks we are taking as a woman, as a mother. But, to take my truth and twist it in misguiding the public… shame on them!”
