Exactly One Year Left Until Election Day- Start Looking At the Polls Now!

With Election Day 2024 now almost exactly one year ahead of us, people are starting to pay attention to poll numbers, which have been less than kind to President Biden. Former President Trump seems to be gaining momentum in the key swing states, as a New York Times/Siena College poll says Trump is leading among registered voters in Arizona, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Michigan and Nevada. Only Wisconsin is in the Biden column, by a mere two points.

The numbers have some in the Democrat Party asking if it’s time for a change at the top of the ticket.  ABC News political analyst Steve Roberts appeared on 710 WOR’s Len Berman and Michael Riedel in the Morning program to analyze Biden’s downward trend; he says there are two key reasons why Biden’s numbers are sinking like a rock tied to a brick.

“People continue to be very sour about this economy,” Roberts first surmised for Berman and Riedel, “and Biden is going around the country, and bought $25 million in ads to say, ‘Everything’s great, we’ve got all these jobs being created’, and that’s true. But, for the average family in New York and everywhere else, the real impact is simply the persistence of inflation, and particularly on two budget items, groceries and gas.”

Roberts then cited age as the other reason why Biden’s numbers are cratering. “[Biden’s] about to turn 81, and Democrats can say all they want, ‘Well, Donald Trump is 77, he’s almost as old.’” That’s true, but let’s be completely honest about this: Trump comes across as a much more energetic, vital figure than Joe Biden, and so there’s a much bigger gap than three years when people look at the two men… that’s what’s pulling down those poll numbers.”
