MTA Fare Hikes Take Effect This Weekend

Beginning this weekend, commuters will be paying more to get around New York City.

The cost of a subway and bus ride is increasing from $2.75 to $2.90, while it'll also cost more to ride the Long Island Rail Road and Metro North. It follows increases at the MTA bridges and tunnels earlier this month.

The fare hikes comes as the MTA considers its plan for congestion pricing. Beginning in early 2024, drivers will be charged as much as $23 to travel south of 60th Street. However, several groups have pushed for exemptions and New Jersey is suing because drivers from the state would have to pay two tolls.
