Many observers feel the indictment of former president Donald Trump by Jack Smith is noteworthy only for a paucity of serious charges. Former Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino falls squarely in that camp. He calls Smithās indictment of Trump āreally and truly weakā; however, appearing on 710 WORās Len Berman and Michael Riedel in the Morning program, Astorino contends there is nothing behind Smithās indictment for a reason.
āIf you look at it, the word āinsurrectionā aināt in there, āseditionā aināt in there, because heās not charging him with that, Astorino told Berman and Riedel. So, heās basically just listing things that happened [January 6th], but⦠a couple of weeks from now, a couple of months from now, something happens with Joe Biden⦠that definitely proves that heās corrupt, then maybe thereās a superseding indictment on this that does make that stupid case, because right now it doesnāt.ā
Ā
Astorino expounded on that point. āIf weāre going to be put a former president in jail⦠it better be really, really serious and convincing to the entire country that there is no doubt that this person needs to be behind bars. Right now weāre split. Even people who donāt like him are saying, āAlright, I hate the guy, I donāt want him to run, Iāll never vote for him, but putting him in jail, and for something like this?ā I mean, this is stretching stuff.ā
