Mayor Adams: Jordan Neely Did Not Deserve To Die

Following the death of a homeless man on the subway, Mayor Adams is pushing for improved mental health services in the city.

“Jordan Neely's life mattered. He was suffering from severe mental illness, but that was not the cause of his death. His death is a tragedy that never should have happened,” Mayor Adams said.

The mayor is pushing Albany lawmakers to increase mental health resources and improve accountability. He’s also promoting a measure in the city that would make it clear to hospitals that a person shouldn’t be released from psychiatric care simply because they appear stable at the moment.

“There were many people who did care about a man named Jordan, but it wasn't enough this time, and we must keep trying before we lose another Jordan,” Adams said.
