ABC got caught using old footage during Sunday’s Knicks and Heat playoff game, returning from commercial with a video that included the Twin Towers.
The Statue of Liberty was the focal point of the brief video that aired during halftime, but in the lower part of the screen you could see the top of the Twin Towers. The towers were destroyed in the 9/11 attacks, meaning the video was more than 20 years old.
“We mistakenly used an old stock image and we apologize,” ESPN said in an email to the website Awful Announcing.
Still, many on social media wonder how such a mistake could be made.
The Heat won the game 108 to 101.
