New York City Councilman Joe Borelli disagrees with a decision that could limit the release of graphic NYPD videos.
“I think this is a political thing. I think they’re trying not to alarm the public with the very real data and very real video of what’s happening in our city in terms of crime,” Borelli told WOR’s “Len Berman and Michael Riedel in the Morning.”
The Daily News reported that the department has been debating whether to scale back how much video it releases. There are some who believe the videos are too sensational and is driving a narrative that crime in the city is getting worse.
“I don’t doubt for a minute that these videos help us catch criminals,” Borelli said.
