Salary Transparency Law Takes Effect In NYC

Beginning on Tuesday, most businesses in New York City will be required to post a salary range for all new job postings.

The goal is to close the gender and racial pay gap.

“The bills we are signing today underscore our commitment to delivering for underserved communities, while promoting greater transparency for employees throughout the city,” Mayor Adams said when he signed the measure into law.

Critics are worried the law will create awkwardness and jealousy in workplaces. That’s because co-workers will now know the approximate salary of the new hires.
