The MTA is stepping up its efforts to keep riders safe on the trains.
It’s creating a train patrol unit that will begin riding the Long Island Rail Road and Metro North in 2023.A unit of 60 officers will board the trains and patrol them while the trains travel into New York City.
Major crimes on the LIRR were up 73 percent through August.
On Tuesday, the MTA and Governor Hochul will announce a safety plan for the subway system.
