Billy Joel Donates A Million And A Half Dollars To Long Island Arts School

Billy Joel is donating money to help young performers at a school on Long Island.

The Hicksville native pledged, through his foundation, one-point-five-million-dollars to Long Island High School for the Arts in Syosset. The school specializes in training singers, dancers, actors and those who work behind the scenes.

He pledged the same amount of money to the school in 2016 to prevent it from closing. In 2017, the building that houses the school’s music and theater programs was renamed in honor of the icon’s mother Rosalind Joel, who passed away in 2014.
