The “New York Times” Buys Wordle

When Josh Wardle created Wordle, it was fun.

The game full of five letter words was meant to be a gift to his partner. It grew and he put it online for people to play for free. In the last month, the game has gone ultra viral with millions playing.

That’s why Wardle is handing off Wordle to “The New York Times.” For around seven figures, the “Times” will take control of the game and make it available for free on its website. Josh admits that it’s been overwhelming handling things lately, so his decision was easy.

The game’s creator hopes more and more people play it and get as much joy out of it as he has.
