Police responded to the Kings Plaza Shopping Center in Brooklyn on Monday afternoon to investigate reports of a shooting at the mall.
The violence appeared to be an isolated event that stemmed from a dispute between several teenagers, NYPD officials told NBC 4 New York.
The gunfire occurred inside the mall and the 16-year-old victim rushed to a nearby store after suffering a wound to his leg. He's expected to recover.
Police said the shooter immediately fled the mall but multiple people were placed in custody by the middle of the afternoon.
Weapons were also recovered from the scene.
