A teenager who brought a loaded handgun and thousands of dollars in cash with him to a Brooklyn school was arrested Wednesday, according to reports.

The 17-year-old boy reported late to class Wednesday at the Urban Assembly School for Law and Justice in Downtown Brooklyn. While he was reporting his attendance at an office, the school secretary saw what appeared to be a firearm in the student's backpack.

The school secretary alerted the dean, who called school safety agents to restrain the teen, Fox 5 New York reports.

The NYPD responded and took the student into custody.

Officers who searched the boy's bag found a loaded semi-automatic pistole and a pile of more than $30,000 in cash.

Charges are pending while police investigate.
