We’re no strangers to having secret details about public figures leaked online, but the reaction of a candidate for New York City Council to a video of his sex life is unusual. An anonymous person on Twitter posted a video from 2019 of screenwriter and actor Zack Weiner engaged in BDSM play with his then-girlfriend; he’s currently running for the Upper West Side’s 6th District seat, and unlike many who would deny it was them, Weiner responded with a statement saying “I am a proud BDSMer. I like BDSM activity.”
The video shows Weiner bound and gagged while a dominatrix pours wax onto his body and clips clothespins onto his nipples. The woman was Weiner’s girlfriend at the time, and he’s refused to identify her. He started his statement with “I didn’t want anyone to see that, but here we are,” then discussed the fact that younger people have grown up in a world where their private moments are documented online.
This would cause an issue in his run for office, but Weiner’s campaign has only raised around $10k, and he hasn’t made much of an impact on the race. New Yorkers go to the polls this week for the primary election.
