The Name Karen Continues To Drop In Popularity

We recently told you about the most popular baby names of 2020, but what about the least popular? Well, it should come as no surprise that one female name continues to drop in popularity, so much so that it’s actually reaching new lows.

According to the Social Security Administration, the name “Karen” continues to be shunned by moms and dads. The name, now often associated with privileged, entitled (and often racist) white women, fell 171 spots on the baby name list, landing at 831 this year, down from 660 in 2019. There were only 325 girls given the name Karen, down from 439 last year, the 14th largest decrease in 2020.

The new ranking is the lowest Karen landed on the list since 1927. Back in 1965 Karen was actually the third-most-popular name for girls, with 33,000 babies given the name.
