14-Year-Old Gives Birth, Hands Baby To Customer In NJ Restaurant

A 14-year-old gave birth on Wednesday before handing her baby off to a stranger at New Jersey restaurant.

The teen mother went into the El Patron restaurant in Jersey City, walked right up to the counter claiming she found an infant girl. The owner of the establishment, Frankie Aguilar said the girl handed the baby off to a customer and ran out of the restaurant.

Alease Scott and her boyfriend Walter Cocca were eating lunch when the girl asked for their help before handing off her newborn child. Scott didn't hesitate, according to ABC News, "I said do you mind if I check the baby's vitals, she readily handed the baby over to me so my focus went right onto the baby," Scott said. The baby still had a portion of the umbilical cord attached and was having trouble breathing. Thank goodness Scott is trained in CPR and first aid.

"Once I applied the oxygen mask to the baby, all of a sudden we heard the most beautiful cry and the baby started moving, she slightly opened up her eyes and then she closed her eyes but the sweetest thing was when she got hungry and she was trying to suckle on the oxygen mask so we knew she was OK after that," Scott said.

Eventually the police did find the mother and have put out a statement that they are both doing well. The child will be put up for adoption and as of now the 14-year-old is not facing charges.

"I'm just so happy I was there to help because she just was desperate and didn't know what to do, she was so young," Scott said.
