Here's How The Cecil Hotel Is Connected To American Horror Story

If you're like anyone else sitting at home this weekend, you also indulged in the latest Netflix release, their new true crime series, Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel.

In this season of the crime series they take a look at the disappearance of Elisa Lam, a Canadian student visiting Los Angeles in 2013. Throughout the four episodes in the season you'll learn the hotel is connected to many deaths and disappearances but the main focus is the investigation of Lam's life and death. If you watched the new crime series this weekend and you remember the American Horror Story season with Lady Gaga at a hotel, you'll realize there is a connection between the two!

American Horror Story: Hotel is the fifth season of the series for creator Ryan Murphy. The season centers around an LA hotel named 'Hotel Cortez' where many deaths and paranormal activity has taken place..... Just like Hotel Cecil.

In 2015, Muphy talked about the real-life impact Cecil Hotel had on that season of AHS. "I was always very obsessed with The Hotel Cecil that is downtown," he told Collider, "There was a surveillance video that went around two years ago that just showed a girl getting into an elevator in a downtown hotel that is rumored to be haunted, and she was never seen again."

There are many links to the Cecil Hotel throughout AHS: Hotel. The most obvious being that they were both hotels based in Los Angeles. However there is also an episode of the AHS season titled 'Devil's Night' which featured Richard Ramirez, a serial killer who actually stayed at the Cecil Hotel in the mid 1980s.
