A bus driver in Westchester, New York, was leaving a deli after a coffee break earlier this year when he heard a woman screaming for help. Anthony McPhail rushed to help her four-month-old son, who wasn’t breathing.
He cleared the infant’s airway, performed CPR and was able to save the baby’s life. Now McPhail is being recognized for his heroic actions by elected officials, but don’t go calling him a hero.
“I am not a hero,” he insists. “If I could do it, I’d do it again and again … but I am not a hero. I just did it for the baby and the baby’s mother.” McPhail also urges everyone to learn CPR so they can be life-savers, too.
