Grocery store workers across New Jersey are working overtime, and in fear of catching the coronavirus to make sure people can buy food.
That pushed Newark Mayor Ras Baraka to call on all stores in his city to close on Mondays to give workers a chance to rest up. He says other local businesses should consider closing on Mondays too, to take the stress off first responders in the city.
Baraka says he hopes other New Jersey towns follow his lead and give essential workers a day of rest. On March 12th, Newark had just one confirmed coronavirus case, now they have over two-thousand. At least 106 city residents have died from the virus.
The request is just that...not mandatory.
