New York Governor Andrew Cuomo says four emergency field hospitals are being set up at the Javits Center in Manhattan.
It’s part of the efforts to expand the healthcare system's capacity during the coronavirus outbreak. He toured the facility yesterday, saying each one of the emergency field hospitals includes 250 beds, meaning an additional one-thousand beds can be brought online.
There is also a backup plan for another one-thousand beds, if needed, for “lighter care” cases.
Governor Cuomo says his greatest concern currently is increasing the number of ventilators within the state, and he's calling on additional help from the federal government. The hospitals should be ready for patients in less than ten days.
