Mayor de Blasio calls it an attempted assassination.

A gunman ambushed police officers in the Bronx in two separate attacks.Robert Williams allegedly opened fire on a patrol van on Saturday night before shooting up a station house yesterday morning.

“These officers handled such a horrific situation with heroism, with extraordinary skill, thank God that each and every one of them will be okay,” de Blasio said.

Officer Paul Stroffolino was hit in the neck and released from the hospital after Saturday night’s shooting. A lieutenant remains hospitalized after being shot in the arm.

“This was an attempt to assassinate police officers. We need to use that word because it was a premeditated effort to kill,” de Blasio said.
