A New Jersey custodian is suing his former employer after he says they fired him over a misunderstanding that involved a $20 box of candy.
Peter A. Marro was fired after being accused of stealing a gift-wrapped box of candy around Christmas time. He claims that the box of candy he came across was a year-end gift from the faculty at the school. He took the box of candy to his car and planned on taking it home. Instead, he was summoned to the principal's office and was accused of being seen on camera stealing the candy and putting it in his car.
When he tried to explain the mixup, they didn't believe him and instead fired him on the spot. He was escorted out of the building by police and handcuffed outside. Charges were eventually dropped but he says the damage is already done.
