An NYC politician who introduced legislation against speed cameras has received nine citations for speeding through school districts.
Councilman Mark Gjonaj, who introduced legislation that would eliminate speed cameras and replace them with warning signs was caught by the cameras nine times between January 3, 2019, and November 1,2019.
Amy Cohen of Families For Safe Streets has asked for Councilman Gjonaj to volunteer to take a safe driving course as a sign of good faith.
Reginald Johnson, a spokesperson for the councilman told the New York Post, "The councilman accepts responsibility and regrets these past violations."
The council's Committee on Standards and Ethics is currently reviewing the case.
