Mayor De Blasio Calls For Bail Reform To Be Amended

The rise in anti-Semitic attacks has Mayor Bill de Blasio calling for changes in the state’s new bail reform law.

Bail reform prevents judges from setting bail for most misdemeanor and non-violent felony crimes. It was enacted to prevent people suspected of low level crimes from being locked up simply because they couldn’t afford bail.

But de Blasio argued said it needs to be changed.

“There is a chance now for the legislature to get it right, they did some very good reforms but there’s also things that need to be done, particularly empowering judges to determine if someone poses a threat to the surrounding community,” de Blasio said.
