New Year's Day Crash That Injured 3 Children Under Investigation

The New York State Police are investigating a New Year's Day car accident that left three children badly injured.

According to a story posted on nbcnewyork.com, 49-year-old Maribel Mota was driving northbound on I-684 in Westchester County when she fell asleep at the wheel and slammed into a guardrail causing her vehicle to flip over. Police reports indicate that Mota and the front seat passenger both had seat belts on but the three children in the back of the vehicle did not. Two children were ejected from the vehicle during the crash.

A spokesperson for the New York State Police said all five victims of the crash are expected to survive. No charges have been filed against the driver but the investigation is ongoing.
