During a Sunday press conference, Senator Chuck Schumer asked 170 area Dollar Tree and Family Dollar operators to be cautious about where they purchase their over-the-counter medical products.
Schumer says some purported medical products manufactured in China contain potentially dangerous ingredients.
"You figure if you're buying something without a prescription, it's safe and good," said Schumer. "What makes it even more serious is we don't exactly know which ones may be dangerous because China has such poor labeling, you don't know what they put into each of these drugs."
According to an article published in the New York Post, the products under scrutiny are mostly cosmetic products, particularly skin creams, which have supposedly caused people to suffer from infections and nausea.
