Arthur Lomando, a former NYPD Officer, was sentenced to life in prison for the 2015 murder of his ex-girlfriend, stabbing her an estimated 30 times with a machete at her Midland Park, New Jersey, home.
A story posted on cbslocal.com said, Lomando's ex-girlfriend, Susan Bardzell, had just received a restraining order against him a couple of weeks before the attack.
Lomando's lawyer did not fight the fact that his client killed his ex-girlfriend, but brought up Lomando's long record of mental illness, sighting the fact that he had attempted suicide after the killing by jumping in front of a subway train. Both of Lomando's feet were amputated following that incident.
