DOT Worker Killed While Paving Street In NYC

The New York City Department of Transportation are investigating the circumstatnces that lead to one of their workers getting killed while working with a road crew on East 88th Street early this morning.

Eduardo Calle-Abrill was part of a repaving crew working the overnight shift when a co-worker failed to see him working behind the truck and backed over him.

When first responders arrived on the scene they found Calle-Abrill unconscious and suffering from massive trauma to his entire body. Calle-Abrill was rushed to New York-Presbyterian / Weill Cornell Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Witness Mike Donovan told the New York Post, "Suddenly the noise from the truck stopped and you heard people screaming call 911."

The victim's younger sister Andreina Cortez told the media, "The whole family is heartbroken right now."

The unidentified DOT worker who backed the truck over Calle-Abrill was questioned at the scene by police officials who concluded that there were no signs of criminality and the incident appeared to be a tragic accident.
