The New York City Buildings Department are investigating a construction accident that left 1 worker dead and another injured on Manhattan's Lower East Side.
The accident occurred this morning after a wall from the fire-damaged Beth Hamedrash Hagadol synagogue collapsed and buried two construction works under tons of rubble.
One of the men was rushed to New York-Presbyterian Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The other was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he is being treated for a leg injury.
Tom Daddio, a construction worker at the site told the New York Post, "We heard the wall collapse. One minute, the two guys were there, the next minute the two guys were gone."
Witness Robert Kaljha said he heard screams from the site, and then saw the wall come down in one big piece. "Come to work and the next thing you know, you have to come home in a body bag. It's just ridiculous," he added.
