Crime Falls In New York City

Mayor Bill de Blasio says New York City continues to get safer, reporting that crime was down 2.6 percent in September.

We are the safest big city in America but we always have more to do, and we will be doing more,” Mayor de Blasio said.

The number of murders fell in September and they’re lower this year than they were in 2018. However, the number of hate crimes has increased by 33 percent in 2019. As a result, the NYPD is deploying extra resources to synagogues for Yom Kippur.

“So we’re going to have a very large presence out in Brooklyn and throughout the city tonight through Yom Kippur,” Chief of Detectives Terence Monahan said.
