Around 22 people, including a baby and children, are recovering following the collapse of two residential decks in Wildwood, New Jersey.
The city's fire department says that both the 2nd and 3rd story decks of a condominium building collapsed Saturday night, trapping several people in-between. All victims were freed within an hour, with many hospitalized as a result. One victim's injuries required an airlift to the trauma unit at Atlantic City Medical Center.
The collapse occurred during the annual state firefighters convention in the beach resort town. Firefighters were likely among those hurt or trapped. At least one has come forward to share that he was there.
Chief Jon Frato of the Branchville Fire Department said he was on the second-floor deck when the collapse occurred. "We had a four-month-old who was being held by a female, the deck collapsed and she ended up underneath the deck with the baby under her, and we had to get the deck picked up to get her out and the baby out."
