Governor Cuomo On Vaping: Don’t Do It

Governor Andrew Cuomo is encouraging people not to vape, while announcing a series of measures to protect New Yorkers.

“Don't do it because we do not know that it is safe,” Cuomo said.

He said there’s been a significant increase in the number of illnesses, and even deaths, related to vaping.

“It is an activity that many young people engage in. And common sense says if you do not know what you are smoking, don't smoke it. And right now we don't know what you are smoking in a lot of these vaping substances,” Cuomo said.

He said the state’s Health Department is investigating the companies that produce vaping substances to determine what’s in them. The governor said stores that sell vaping e-cigarettes will also be required to post warnings that alert people to the risks.
