Mayor Bill de Blasio admits he’s considering a plan that would require Citi Bike riders in New York City to wear a helmet.
“I have thought about that. And that’s something we are talking about inside the administration,” de Blasio said.
The mayor called it a “valid issue” and revealed that discussions are taking place on that topic.
“I think the big questions are is it something we could actually enforce effectively, would it encourage or discourage people from riding bikes? But I care first and foremost about safety so we are having that discussion right now,” de Blasio said.
The proposal comes at a time when the city has seen an increase in the number of bikers being killed on the road.
