WWII Vet Gets 98th Bday Surprise From Grocery Store Coworkers

Bartholomeo “Bennie” Ficeto has been working at the Stop & Shop in Edison, New Jersey for 10 years and the bag boy rarely takes a break. But this week, his manager insisted he stop for a few minutes because his coworkers had a little surprise for him.

This week Bennie turns 98 and his colleagues set up a surprise party to celebrate. The World War II veteran was treated to a birthday cake and serenaded by a USO Show Troupe, who serenaded him with tunes from some of his favorite songs from his days in the Air Force.

When asked about the secret to his long life, Bennie says, “"Keep your mouth shut, and never, never contradict anybody. Just walk away from an argument.” And it seems to be working for him.
