9th NYPD Officer Commits Suicide This Year

Another New York City police officer has taken their own life, making them the 9th to commit suicide in 2019.

“We are saddened to announce that the NYPD has suffered another tragedy today with the loss of one of our officers to suicide,” the NYPD said on Twitter.

The 56-year-old officer shot himself in the head at his home in Queens. He was pronounced dead at the hospital. The officer had been with the NYPD for more than 20 years.

“Tonight our city mourns a tragedy. We won’t let anyone struggle alone. I want every one of New York’s Finest to know we are here for you. We value you.Help is available. Please reach out,” Mayor Bill de Blasio tweeted.

The officer is the 9th to commit suicide this year and comes just a day after Officer Johnny Rios took his own life in Yonkers.

“To anyone who may be struggling, know that there is support available. Behind each of these resources are people that care about your well-being,” the NYPD tweeted.
