Rare Medical Condition Stuns Bronx Doctors

A 63-year-old man who took a fall and injured his knee was taken to Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center in the Bronx to be checked out.

During the examination, doctors found the man was suffering from an exceedingly rare condition that is turning his penis to bone.

Doctors discovered the condition known as 'penile ossification' while doing an x-ray on the injured man to make sure his pelvis wasn't injured during the fall.

According to an article posted on newyork.cbslocal.com, the man had "An extensive, plaque-like calcification along the expected distribution of his penis," an abnormal formation of bone.

A team of urologists from the hospital asked the man if they could do further tests on the rare condition but he turned them down and checked himself out of the hospital before any further tests could be done.

In medical history, there have been only 40 published cases of a man's penis turning to bone from penile ossification.
