Nassau Lawmaker Wants To Fine Parents Of Reckless Bike Riders

A legislator from Nassau County wants to begin fining parents of children who ride their bikes recklessly.

Legislator John Ferretti is specifically concerned with kids engaging in “ride outs,” where bike riders intentionally swerve into traffic and then post video on social media.

“This bill is not intended to incriminate any child that is riding their bike responsibly or innocently. This is specifically dealing with children that are participating in these ride outs,” Ferretti said.

Under his proposal, the penalty for ride outs would be a criminal misdemeanor charge and a $100 fine.
