Governor Cuomo: Our Country Is Under Attack From Within

Governor Andrew Cuomo says ignoring this weekend’s mass shootings will only lead to “more bloodshed and more tragedy.”

“Our country is under attack from within, and continuing to ignore what is happening around us will only lead to more bloodshed and more tragedy -- all of it preventable,” Governor Cuomo said in a statement.

Twenty people were killed in a mass shooting in El Paso, Texas and nine people were killed just 13 hours later in Dayton, Ohio.

"This insanity must stop and it must stop now.  Those who are unwilling to do anything about it are complicit. I am sick of the excuses.  I don't want to hear 'we can't' -- because we know we can, and you just 'don't',” Cuomo said.

Governor Cuomo said the federal government must enact strong gun control laws. He said New York has already passed sensible gun safety laws that keep families safe. The governor said he’s also spoken out against the “bigotry and hateful rhetoric” that fuels the attacks and says those in Washington must do the same.

"Our hearts break for these families. On behalf of all New Yorkers, I'm sorry you live in a country with a Federal Government that allows this to happen and does nothing," Governor Cuomo said.
